Hello Marshy

Privacy policy

Hello Marshy ("Hello Marshy," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website, mobile applications, and services (collectively, the "Platform").

By using the Platform, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the Platform.

1. Information we collect

Personal information you provide

When you create an account, complete your profile, or use our services, we may collect:

  • Name, email address, phone number, and mailing address;
  • Profile photo and biographical information;
  • Payment information (processed and stored securely by Stripe — we do not store your full card details);
  • Pet information (names, breeds, special needs, photos);
  • Government-issued photo ID and a selfie holding the ID, used to verify a sitter's identity. All sitters submit these for identity verification, which Hello Marshy reviews manually;
  • Background check information processed by our screening partner, Certn, for sitters on a paid membership plan (the Certn background check also includes its own identity verification step);
  • Messages and communications sent through the Platform;
  • Reviews and ratings you provide.

Information collected automatically

When you access the Platform, we automatically collect:

  • Device information (browser type, operating system, device identifiers);
  • Log data (IP address, access times, pages viewed, referring URL);
  • Location data (postal code or approximate location based on IP address);
  • Usage data (features used, search queries, interactions with the Platform);
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see our Cookie Policy).

2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Platform and our services;
  • Process transactions and send related information (confirmations, receipts);
  • Connect pet owners with sitters and facilitate bookings;
  • Verify sitter identity (all sitters) and conduct third-party background checks (sitters on a paid membership plan only);
  • Send service-related communications (booking updates, messages, reminders);
  • Send promotional communications (you can opt out at any time);
  • Monitor and analyze usage trends to improve user experience;
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues;
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

3. How we share your information

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

With other users

When you book a sitter or accept a booking, we share relevant information (name, contact details, pet details, booking information) between the owner and sitter to facilitate the arrangement.

For legal reasons

We may disclose your information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Hello Marshy, our users, or the public.

Business transfers

In connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of the transaction. We will notify you of any such change.

4. Data security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL), secure database access controls, and regular security assessments. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Identity documents you submit (such as your government-issued photo ID and selfie) are stored in encrypted storage with strictly limited access. Only authorized Hello Marshy reviewers can access these documents, and they are used solely for the purpose of identity verification.

Payment information is processed and stored by Stripe, which is PCI DSS Level 1 certified — the highest level of security certification in the payments industry.

5. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions;
  • Portability: Request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format;
  • Opt-out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in any promotional email;
  • Cookies:Manage your cookie preferences using the cookie consent banner or the "Cookie settings" link in the footer (see our Cookie Policy).

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at contact@hellomarshy.com. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

6. Cookies and tracking technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect usage information and improve the Platform. When you first visit Hello Marshy, a cookie consent banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can change your preferences at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. For detailed information about the types of cookies we use, please see our Cookie Policy.

7. Children's privacy

The Platform is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us at contact@hellomarshy.com.

8. Data retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. We may also retain certain information as required by law, to resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, or for legitimate business purposes.

When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 90 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on the Platform and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Platform after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
